Create Your Favorite Scent with CLE Candle Co.

I’ve seen candle-making places in several cities I’ve visited before, and I’ve always been tempted to try it. Luckily enough, I was invited to The Cleveland Candle Company in Ohio City for a fun night with fellow bloggers to try it out for myself. I’ve bought several of their candles at events like the Cleveland Flea before and loved them, so I was so excited to have this opportunity to try and make one of my own!

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was some signage they had posted on the walls.

I’m all about minimizing our environmental impact, so this made me really happy. They also had another sign saying their glass and containers are made in the U.S.

When we arrived we sat at the bar where we given the low down on the candle making process, poured ourselves some wine (they are BYOB!) and filled out our forms. Once you fill out the form, you get to walk around and pick up all of the candles on the shelves, smelling away and marking down the scents you enjoy the most.

There are a LOT of options, but luckily they are very organized and have the scents grouped together, so the flowery ones are all together, the citrusy ones are together, etc. If you already have an idea of the type of candle you want to make, this definitely helps you narrow the search down! I was immediately drawn to the “outdoor” and Cleveland-based scents.

I wanted to create an outdoors, fresh air, fall time type of candle with a hint of coffee, which is basically all of the things I love.

After you write down all my favorite scents, you head back to bar and work with the Master Mixologists who will help you create a killer combination. They help add in a scent maybe you wouldn’t have thought of,  or they will tell if there are scents you love that won’t work well together. For me, that was really nice because I had no clue what I was doing. I was very nervous my candle would end up smelling terrible.

Finally, you start making your candle cocktail! They provide you all of the oils, and you start mixing them into a small shot glass. As you start mixing, you continue to smell while you mix to ensure all of the oils are blending the way you want them to. Once you fill it to the brim and make your label it’s time to let the wax settle! The scents I ended up using were sunflower, hiking trails, Cleveland snow and roasted coffee. It takes about two hours for the wax to harden. There are a ton of restaurants and bars right around the corner to kill time at.

We went to the back while we waited and created our own lip balms and bath bombs, where again we were able to customize with our favorite scents. I chose a Hawaiian scent for my bath bombs and vanilla for my lip balm. Everything smelled SO good, and it was so fun being able to create something of my own.

If you’re in a rush and can’t make your own candle, as I mentioned before, they have so many options to choose from you are sure to find one that you’ll like! They have three locations: Ohio City, Coventry and Mentor.

The custom candle making is priced based on the jar you select. They have 12-15 different options, ranging from $16-$36.

So, next time you’re thinking of what to do for a fun girls night out or date night, think about making this your next destination!
