There is no shortage of holiday activities to keep yourself occupied with while staying at Sawmill Creek Resort. The resort has recently undergone remodeling and renovations, so even if you’ve stayed here before, it’ll feel like a new experience! The resort is located in Huron near Cedar Point. This was the perfect “staycation” for my friend and I, as it’s only a 40 minute drive from Cleveland.
If you’re looking for a friend’s getaway or a relaxing escape with your partner, this resort is an ideal destination to do just that. There is a restaurant for lunch and dinner, pool, hot tub and fitness center within the resort, so you truly don’t ever have to leave the property if you don’t want to.
The Season of Joy
During the months of November and December, the resort puts on the “Season of Joy” to bring the holiday season to life. Starting December 16ththese events are happening daily. We stayed for one night so we could experience all of the holiday magic happening here.
The resort pulled out all the stops when it comes to festive activities and décor. The interior is decorated to the nines with giant trees dripping in beautiful ornaments, as well as wreaths, lights and other miscellaneous decorations throughout the property – truly making it feel like a winter wonderland.
The Holiday Activities to Experience
We tried to experience as many of the activities as possible. Here’s everything we did while at the resort:
Ribbon making
Wreath making
Decorating an ugly sweater
Painting a winter landscape
Making a holiday cocktail at the pop up Christmas bar
Listening to multiple live musical groups
Roasting s’mores at the outdoor firepit
Enjoying the outdoor holiday lights
My personal favorite was painting—I’m typically awful at any sort of crafts—but this was really fun. They have two guides explaining every step of the process, making it hard to create a bad painting. Keep in mind they cap this event to 25 people, so make sure you arrive a few minutes early to pay and guarantee a seat!
My friend’s favorite was the live musical groups (it was a close second for me, too). They had an acapella group, carolers who roamed the resort, a brother/sister duo on the piano, and dueling pianos late night in the restaurant. Everyone is dressed in their best festive clothing as well, making it extra special.
What Else You Can Expect
They also offer hot chocolate stations throughout the resort, so you can make your own delicious drink. We piled ours up with marshmallows and chocolate shavings and took them into their outdoor patio where they had a huge display of holiday lights and outdoor decorations. Once we walked through there, we went to the outdoor fire pit and made s’mores while they read some classic holiday stories. We also had to take advantage of the indoor swimming pool and hot tub as well as the decked out fitness center. I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels before, and the fitness center was one of the more impressive ones I’ve been to!
So, if you adore the holiday season like I do and want to experience the magic of the season, I would suggest booking a night at the Sawmill Creek Resort. They offer great rates starting at $159 all month long.

Meet the blogger
Whether you're interested in finding a day hike near you or a weekend getaway, I hope to be a helpful resource for you to find something fun to do. I've been living in Ohio for over a decade and have been able to spend time in almost every region. I think there is something for everyone here! And while we travel a ton within the state, we also love traveling to other states via road trips and sometimes bigger adventures that require a plane ride. I hope you find what you're looking for, and happy adventuring!
